Sunday, September 13th – Toronto, Canada — One of the many after party hot spots for the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival (and great celeb sighting hangouts) is The Drake on Queen Street West, in downtown Toronto.
On Sunday evening, spotted sipping $11 martini’s was Tony award winning Canadian actor, writer, and filmmaker Don McKellar and his actress sweetheart Tracy Wright. Their bed in The Drake’s Sky Yard was apparently coolly stolen by fellow Canadian, lingerie model, Essy, when McKellar and Wright got up to take pictures of the city skyline.
McKellar, a Toronto resident, is proud to be part of TIFF 2009 and stars in Leslie, My Name is Evil and Cooking with Stella which are both featured in this year’s Festival along with his debut Future Projections installation Imaginary Lovers. It was also annouced last Wednesday that McKellar would be part of the quartet of mentors, or “governors,” at TIFF 2009 who are sharing their advice and experience with the emerging young filmmakers in the TIFF Talent’s Lab.
Sources told the TOI that McKellar and Wright later joined Essy to enjoy the view.
The Toronto International Film Festival is not only an opportunity for film fans to see the latest Indie films and paparazzi to snap shots of hot celebs, but also a chance for fabulous Toronto natives, like Essy and McKellar, to spend time at home. McKellar said of himself, “I’m an uptight Canadian white guy,” on why he still lives in Toronto, “I have issues with personal space and dirt.”
On hearing McKellar, the ex-Calvin Klein model laughed. “I understand exactly what he means,” said Essy. “I return home to Toronto any chance I can,” she continued, “I think I’m too uptight for Manhattan anyway. Maybe New York reminds me too much of Woody Allen movies,” Essy joked.
Rumors to the TOI suggest that Essy and McKellar met to talk about her appearance in an upcoming project of his, but no comment from either of their management has suggested that she has any plans to take a break from modeling for acting.
